The Professional Standards Division consists of the Internal Affairs Unit and Custodian of Records, Background Investigations Unit, and Defensive Arming Unit, and Safety Unit. The Internal Affairs Units performs a full range of human resource functions and conducts internal affairs investigations, including Complaints Against Personnel. The COR is the department’s internal consultant on case confidentiality and the release of records. The COR provides technical expertise and support to Probation management to ensure adherence to legal mandates and regulations. The Background Investigations Unit conducts thorough sworn, professional, and volunteer background investigations for the department as well as select County agencies. The Defensive Arming Unit provides monthly use of force/legal updates and firearms training to the departments armed officers and ensures that officers meet the firearms standards required by the Department, state, and Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST). The Safety Unit protects the department’s assets by coordinating safety initiatives to promote a safe and healthful workplace and ensures regulatory compliance.
