Background Investigation

Every peace officer candidate shall be the subject of a thorough background investigation to verify good moral character and the absence of past behavior indicative of unsuitability to perform the duties of a peace officer.

Although specific acts or omissions may disqualify a candidate, it should be noted that each candidate’s background will be reviewed weighing all aspects to determine if the candidate possesses the characteristics and qualities desired by the Orange County Probation Department.  Therefore, a history of ethical and moral behavior is of the utmost importance.

The background investigation will be conducted using the guidelines established by the California Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.).  The following areas will be evaluated to determine if you are a viable peace officer candidate:

  • Personal / Family History
